Vilsack Signs MOU to Support Biofuels; USDA Looks to Develop Crop Insurance for Biofuel Crop Producers

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack made a few announcements on February 25 relating to biofuels. He first announced that he will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to encourage the continued development of bio-based products for energy consumption, animal feed, chemicals and other uses. The second announcement indicated that announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will soon seek proposals to study the feasibility of providing crop insurance to producers of biofuel feedstocks, including corn stover, straw and woody biomass.
