The groundbreaking event will take place at the plant’s site in Soperton, GA (approximately 155 miles outside of Atlanta in Treutlen County). Georgia Governor Sonny Purdue, as well as other government officials and special interest groups will be on hand to celebrate and address the significance of this special event.

Range Fuels’ Soperton Plant will use wood and wood waste from Georgia’s pine forests and mills as its feedstock and will have the capacity to produce over one hundred million gallons of ethanol per year.
Range Fuels’ technology is low-impact and environmentally friendly in its approach – the Soperton Plant will use a quarter of the average water required by corn-based ethanol plants per gallon of ethanol produced—essential at a time where many of Georgia communities are facing debilitating water shortages.
The new plant is financed in part by a $76 million grant from the U.S. Dept. of Energy, and is a strategic component of the Federal government’s wider plan of making cellulosic ethanol cost-competitive with gasoline by 2012.
