GOSHEN, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cilion, a new biofuels company, today announced the appointment of Mark L. Noetzel as its Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors. He was previously a Group Vice President of BP plc based in London. In 26 years with BP and Amoco, Mr. Noetzel has led multi-billion dollar businesses in the fuels and chemical industry in the US, Europe and Asia. In 2003, he was appointed Group Vice President with responsibility for BP’s $65 billion revenue retail operations and fuels transport and wholesaling in the US, Europe and Asia.
“I am thrilled to be joining Cilion. The time is right for America and the world to embrace a sustainable, affordable fuel for its vehicles. Cilion is perfectly placed to meet that need,” said Mr. Noetzel. “Cilion is backed by the premier investors in the ethanol business and is already building a competitively advantaged plant in the enormous California market. I am looking forward to growing Cilion aggressively and to furthering its advantaged position.”
“Over the course of his career, Mr. Noetzel has developed deep experience in connecting strategy to implementation, meeting consumer needs in sustainable ways, building operation excellence, and ensuring safe operations,” said Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures. “We have a great team at Cilion. With the addition Mark, we are confident that they can build Cilion to be a leading bio-fuels company.” In addition to Khosla Ventures, the major investors in Cilion include UK-based Virgin Fuels, part of Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, Yucaipa Companies and Western Milling.
Mr. Noetzel holds a BA in international relations/political science from Yale University and an MBA in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He and his wife Karen have three children.
Founded in May 2006, Cilion is headquartered in Goshen, California. Cilion is a renewable fuel company that converts corn into ethanol to power cars and trucks.
Cilion fuel is American made which helps reduce our dependence on foreign oil while simultaneously strengthening the American economy by producing the next generation of low cost and environmentally sustainable biofuels. As California represents 20% of the US ethanol consumption, Cilion has distinguished itself by its destination-based business model and energy efficient ethanol facilities. The destination model creates added value for distillers grain which is a co-product of ethanol production. Distillers grain is an economic, high protein dairy and cattle feed. Currently, Cilion is building their first ethanol plants in California and then continuing this destination strategy onto the East Coast.
Cilion is implementing state-of-the-art technology, and pursuing new processes to produce renewable energy sources to help America achieve greater energy independence and food security. Cilion is able to offer consumers greener choices in the kinds of fuels they use.
